The Baltic Sea Challange

Celebrate Baltic Sea Day by enjoying short film screenings in Helsinki

To celebrate Baltic Sea Day, the City of Helsinki’s Baltic Sea Challenge is organizing environmental-themed short film screenings in Helsinki. These brand-new documentaries explore the coexistence of humans and nature in their unique ways. The screening duration is approximately one hour. Admission to the event is free, but you need to book your ticket in advance. The films have English subtitles.

“Trashday” (dir. Petrus Koskinen) is a documentary about a family man, Eino, who started picking up litter after noticing his local environment was full of it. The film delves into Eino as a person, the act of collecting trash, and maintaining hope in the world we live in.

Minun mereni, “My Sea”, (dir. Ari Heinilä) is a poetic film about the dialogue between the sea and humans, where the sea takes the main role and humans are secondary. It takes viewers on adventures underwater, into the depths, through the archipelago’s labyrinths, and driven by the winds and waves in the wake of various sea people. The user of the sea also encounters the downside, a poorly treated friend. The film is shown on the Baltic Sea Day in dozens of coastal cities around the coast of Finland.
