The Baltic Sea Challenge as a Partner
Happenings and Events
The Baltic Sea Challenge organises events annually, often in collaboration with partners or different city departments.
In January, the annual seminar brings together water protection professionals and researchers. In August, the initiative co-organises Baltic Sea Day together with partners.
In addition, the Baltic Sea Challenge facilitates webinars, workshops, and discussion events each year. The Cities and the Baltic Sea Panel offer a wide range of expertise, for example, keynote speakers.
Cooperations With Educational Institutions
One of the goals of the Baltic Sea Challenge is to promote environmental education and ocean literacy. The initiative regularly collaborates with higher education institutions in Turku and Helsinki.
Students are also offered opportunities to complete theses in cooperation with the Baltic Sea Challenge. As the commissioning partner, support is provided throughout the entire process — from defining the topic to giving feedback at different stages of the work.
Projects
Some of the measures in the Baltic Sea Action Plan are implemented through projects. In recent years, projects have focused on, for example, developing stormwater solutions, reducing the flow of harmful substances and nutrients into local waters, and increasing awareness of the Baltic Sea. The Cities employ a broad range of experts with practical expertise in water protection and management.
