Frequently Asked Questions
The Baltic Sea Commitment is an organisation’s pledge to take concrete actions for the benefit of the Baltic Sea and local waters. The Commitment supports the organisation’s environmental work and may include measures related to water protection, reducing nutrient loads, or promoting sustainable development. Actions can also involve environmentally responsible choices in the workplace, such as minimising harmful substances, saving energy, or providing environmental training for employees. Each commitment is tailored to the organisation’s activities, resources, and opportunities.
The Commitment is prepared based on the organisation’s own starting points. Municipalities can make use of the Baltic Sea Challenge Action Plan, which provides ready-made suggestions and examples. Other organisations can also find ideas and inspiration in the programme. The key is that the Commitment includes concrete and realistic actions that support the organisation’s own work for the benefit of waters. If you need support or ideas, please contact the coordinators of the Baltic Sea Challenge.
Once completed, the Commitment is submitted using the form available on the Baltic Sea Challenge website. The form guides you in providing the required information. You will receive a confirmation message and a copy of your Commitment by email.
The scope of the Commitment depends entirely on the organisation. Smaller actors may focus on individual actions, while larger organisations can develop more comprehensive programmes. What matters most is that the Commitment is well planned: realistic and feasible.
